The Union for Cultural Commons (UCC) is a nationwide association with the aim of transforming cultural institutions. It focuses both on the working conditions of cultural workers and the role of cultural institutions in society as a whole. We believe that cultural venues can make a decisive contribution within socio-ecological transformation processes.

We call for radically democratic structures and an opening up of institutions and are striving to initiate nationwide model projects that anticipate an overall overcoming of traditional management structures. One possible variant is the "Cyclical Model. Theater as self-learning self-organization". We advocate operating cultural institutions as commons in order to establish and maintain resilient networks of relationships based on solidarity.

Cultural institutions that are operated as commons should also be formally stabilized in legal terms and managed via a Commons Public Partnership (CPP). In a multi-stage process, commonizers and cultural administrations work together on transformational legal processes.

At the same time, our commitment also includes an aesthetic transformation in the sense of an understanding of art and culture that involves turning away from the cult of genius and the hegemony of representation. Commoning art refers to the artistic work of peers through and with each other, care-centered management and overcoming various structural and explicit forms of discrimination and violence.
