Em. Prof. Dr. Drux, who has held the Chair of Modern Literature at the University of Cologne for over 15 years, will give an exciting lecture at the Uni-Center in Cologne, linking literature and science as well as the new developments of today.

The name Victor Frankenstein has always been associated by the general public with scientific endeavors that focus on human life and nature. Thus, the study of Frankenstein the man-maker and monster tinkerer opens up a great opportunity to show the interfaces between art and science, between history and the social present. Prof. Dr. Rudolf Drux's lecture will attempt to do just that in three chapters, focusing primarily on the early 19th century, when Mary Shelley's famous novel was written:

I. The "modern Prometheus" versus the ancient/mythological one

II. Frankenstein's creature in the context of the artificial human being

III. interventions in life. Or the "postmodern Prometheus".
