Wine as a cultural asset

Wine growing in Berlin and the surrounding area has a long tradition. The first documentary reference to wine growing in our region dates back to 1173 - who would have thought it? Monks were already growing grapes in the Middle Ages. Due to the decline of the monasteries and a so-called "Little Ice Age", this tradition was almost forgotten. Only a few street names in the town, such as Weinmeisterhornweg or Weinbergweg, remind us of this time. In 2002, this old tradition was revived in Britz at Koppelweg 70. Since then, around 1,500 vines, including the Acolon (red wine) and Ortega (white wine) varieties, have thrived on an area of almost 5,000 m². They thrive well in our latitudes and produce wines of an appealing quality.
