Since its foundation in 2002, the Wiesbadener Fototage has seen itself as a festival for contemporary artistic and documentary photography with international participation. The content framework for the exhibitions and the festival program is the respective annual theme. Conceptually, the Wiesbadener Fototage are based on the triad of exhibitions, accompanying program and sponsorship awards.

The aim of the Wiesbadener Fototage is to bring contemporary photography more into the public eye and to demonstrate artistic engagement with the medium through the presentation of professional, high-quality photographic works under a thematic focus.


EXHIBITIONS
Exhibitions in various art and cultural institutions in the state capital are at the heart of the Wiesbaden Photo Days. Photographers and artists from all over the world can apply to take part in these exhibitions in a public call for entries. There are no stylistic or technical restrictions. What is required, however, are self-contained series that implement the current festival theme to a high standard and reveal an independent photographic position. The submitted works will then be viewed and judged by a jury of several members. Depending on the exhibition space available, this jury will select up to 50 positions to be presented during the festival. The exhibition course of the Wiesbadener Fototage thus offers a wide range of how the nominees realize the respective theme. The Wiesbadener Fototage offers young photographers and up-and-coming talents in particular the opportunity to present their work to a large audience for the first time. So far, more than 400 photographers have shown their work in Wiesbaden. And for quite a few of them, participation in the Fototage has been the springboard to a remarkable career.

ACCOMPANYING PROGRAM
Symposium, lectures, talks and a film series will illuminate aspects of the festival theme from different perspectives. This educational program is supported by regional and national cooperation partners and also serves to deepen the contact between the participating artists and the festival audience.

FUNDING AWARDS
The Wiesbadener Fototage actively involves visitors in the discourse on the evaluation of contemporary photography and has been awarding an audience prize since 2007. This prize has been supplemented by the "Jury Prize" since 2015. Both prizes are presented during the festival - the jury prize on the opening evening, the audience prize on the last day of the festival.
