ZEBRAS Collective
In the page's words:
"You're only a zebra if you have black and white stripes!" - Is that true? As people with a migration biography, we sometimes feel like "white zebras". As beings without a specific appearance, because we have to hide our individual traits in order to conform to the norm. - Not standing out often also means simply remaining silent. Especially when German is not the first language. Then even communication between family generations is characterized by misunderstandings and speechlessness. For example, parents are unable to express their expectations to their children, and vice versa.
The ZEBRAS Collective aims to build intercultural bridges using languages that do not correspond to a single alphabet and are easily accessible. We are convinced that all artistic disciplines have interpersonal communication as their goal. This includes, for example, drawing illustrations, cinematic storytelling and much more. Basically everything, if we see ourselves as a fair and open society. Especially for people for whom German is not their first language, music can be something of a "barrier-free measure" in its universal effect.
Due to our own history of migration, we want our work to appeal specifically to people of Southeast Asian descent, as there is not yet a sufficient cultural offering for this community in Stuttgart and it often remains invisible as a result. But the ZEBRAS Collective also sees itself as an inclusive space that is open to all sides. Because we understand society as a togetherness... of diverse zebras.
