EV

In the artist's words:

Every now and then, a voice comes along that makes you stop and listen. EV, the stage name of artist, songwriter, and producer Evan Scase, is just that: the everyday poet turning heads with his relatable yet unapologetically in-your-face lyrics that stick in your mind, and infectious tunes to match.

Inspired by ’90s rave, UK rap, alternative, and electronic dance music, EV takes the listener through the highs and lows of British life, with his compelling social commentary and melodic rap drawing inspiration from artists such as Plan B, The Streets, Fontaines D.C., Example, and Bicep.

EV developed his love for rave and electronic dance music from the ’90s breakbeat, drum ’n’ bass, and jungle his father played on car trips, while his older brother introduced him to the rap of The Streets, Kano, Skepta, and Professor Green. EV never looked back. Living just outside Ipswich, he worked as a truck mechanic throughout his early 20s; and even while putting in his “crazy 60-hour” weeks, he was producing tracks and refining his broad electronic dance music palette.

“I just fell in love with music,” he says. “I love soccer, don’t get me wrong. But music was the one thing I just kept coming back to. Music has always been an escape for me, and writing about UK weekend culture is something I’ve lived through and that the people around me can relate to.”
