Go ahead and say brass band!

But what the gentlemen of Federspiel bring to the stage probably disproves most expectations that the word brings with it. Nevertheless, they are, go ahead and say it: a brass band. But one in a class of its own, one that combines new and traditional, played and sung, lightness and depth in its playing as elegantly as few others.

As an artistic heavyweight with feather-light compositions in their luggage, Federspiel has long since performed on the world's major concert stages. Their performances have taken them from Scandinavia to Egypt and from the USA back to the beautiful Wachau region, where the ensemble was founded in 2004.

In hundreds of concerts - from elegant philharmonic halls to rustic taverns - Federspiel has developed its own musical language in the field of tension between tradition and modernity and has established itself as one of the most innovative ensembles on the European wind music scene.

With a pioneering spirit and yet always full of respect, the ensemble interweaves echoes from the Nordic musical tradition with Alpine repertoire, percussive playing styles with electronic sounds to create something new - contemporary music that bows reverently to its past and boldly projects itself into the future.
