Every now and then - rarely, but it happens - the theater world spits out a musical talent that you listen to immediately. You have to listen. And sometimes this person, who has morphed into a musician, saves all the facets, all the eclecticism from his actual world into the new world. And more. Actor Paul Sies must be included in this vanishingly small group.

There is not the slightest desire here to sell himself or to offer prose disguised as larmoyant calendar sayings. Sies' melancholy murder ballads meander along the streets of Nick Cave's neighborhood, shining through the darkest paths of German singer-songwriters of the 70s, strolling like chansoniers on paths of even earlier days. At times, however, they also resemble the odes of today's heroes such as Tristan Brusch, without being mere copies. However, Sies always dresses his deep sadness in crazy costumes, as can be seen in his various, no less imaginative videos.

One of his unique selling points: Paul Sies knows no vanity musically or lyrically; on the contrary, he talks about how depressing and at the same time beautiful existence can be. He manifests this movingly in his songs. On some of the tracks on "Mein schöner Hals", you come to an astonishing realization: Sies is suddenly the German version of Killers frontman Brandon Flowers here and there, both in terms of his talent for great melodies, his vocal resemblance to the sad street hero and, last but not least, his looks (because let's put it this way: you don't have to look away when the guy appears somewhere).

But fuck all comparisons: Paul Sies' songs are bursting with idiosyncrasy and charm and sadness and comfort. And at the center of it all is a shy, desperate man with a voice that resembles a crack in the plaster that strives upwards towards the stucco. In short: you want to get to know this man. To see him singing on a stage. And quickly.
