Guys, it's official: temperatures are rising, ice cubes are clattering in overpriced drinks and the sun is burning the reality out of your head. Leipzig in July means everything at the same time: sweat, bass, falafel, love. Between lake and Späti, gallery opening and summer cinema, ice cream scoop number four & mambo number five.
They're lurking everywhere again, between columns of bicycles hungry for a swim, annoyed swarms of wasps and late-night shopping: those great events that keep you from sleeping at night and make you sit bravely in the office with sunglasses and a headache pill during the day. Because anyone who knows Leipzig knows that the creative scene here is just as hot as the thermometer: From relaxed evenings in the southern suburbs and wicked open-air concerts to exhibitions where even the artworks could get sunburnt. And because July is traditionally the peak season for spontaneous decisions, you can expect countless opportunities to charmingly ignore your to-do list and celebrate summer instead. 👯♂️🍹

There are those summer evenings in Leipzig when you just don’t want to go home. That’s exactly why GRASSI has opened its courtyards and the Rehgarten. The three museums at GRASSI move their programs out into the open air, and the result is less of a museum visit and more of a summer evening under the trees—with art, music, and people who are just as reluctant to go home as you are. Much of it is free, by the way 💜 The best part is the variety. If you’re coming with kids, there are special activities just for the little ones. If you want to clear your head, join a yoga or mindfulness workshop. And if you just want to let the evening unfold, stick around for summer theater, readings, or an open-air movie night. In July, it’s worth the trip for several reasons. July offers plenty of reasons to visit: On Saturday, July 18, you can browse, haggle, and find treasures at the flea market. Wednesday, July 22, is all about open-air bingo—a fun, social event with plenty of humor. And on Saturday, July 25, the Zebra.Festival will be the colorful highlight of the month 🦓 And that’s just the beginning of the GRASSI summer. The program continues well into September, before the Grassifest brings everyone together one last time. Until then: Pack a blanket, grab some friends, and come on by.
