Summer is just a warm memory - fall is here!

Yes, it's true: The days are getting shorter, colder and wetter. But at the same time, the cozy season has arrived. 🍂✨That means: walks through colorful foliage, followed by a slice of (pumpkin) cake in your favorite café and Netflix with snacks on the couch in the evening. All that's missing now are a few great excursion tips to make the autumn experience even better. We've picked out a few exciting places in Dortmund that you can visit both on sunny, golden fall days and when it's cold and wet. Have fun! 🙌

Rombergpark plant show houses

Do you want to escape to other climate zones in this cold and wet weather? Nothing could be easier: you can marvel at flora from all over the world in Rombergpark's plant show houses - and warm up at the same time! The four show houses are divided into a cactus/succulent house, a fern house, a rainforest house and the Tasmania house, and you can combine your visit with a cup of coffee in the quaint Café Orchidee, right next to the houses. "Real" Dortmunders have been stopping here since they were toddlers after a long walk with their grandparents, and the beautiful Rombergpark really invites you to take a little stroll. And if your feet get heavy: You can end your route in comfort at the nearby subway station.

Dortmund U

The Dortmunder U immediately catches the eye - it towers imposingly and is easy to spot. But it's not just from the outside that the former brewing and storage cellar of the Union Brewery is impressive. Inside, there is a diverse cultural program that you should definitely check out, with various exhibitions awaiting you on the different floors. Did you know that the Dortmunder U even has a cinema? A classic, film festival winner or documentary is shown here every Tuesday from 6 pm. In the cold seasons, it's the perfect place to get cozy in the red cinema seats.

Hohensyburg Castle

Stroll through the ruins of the castle, enjoy the view from the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument or climb the Vinck Tower for a few small coins and let your gaze wander even further: Hohensyburg Castle has plenty to offer for a beautiful fall excursion.

The perfect walking route: from the Kaiser Wilhelm monument down to the point where the Ruhr, Lenne and Hengsteysee rivers meet. Then climb back up to the top of the Syberg (245m) - over the slope with the colorful deciduous trees. Afterwards, you have definitely earned a Pasteis de Nata in the Portuguese bakery and restaurant "Casa Iberica".

Dortmund Nature Museum

Stand under prehistoric giants, immerse yourself in the fish fauna of Lake Möhne, see colorful crystals sparkle in the black light and catch a glimpse of the formation of our solar system - all this and many other exciting things await you on a rainy autumn day at the Dortmund Nature Museum, which has finally been open again since September 2020 after long-term renovations and awaits you with sunken and present-day habitats and their species. In the geological exhibition, you will be guided through a comprehensive collection from the last ice age to the Cretaceous period. But we don't want to spoil everything for you. The best thing to do is to discover the great exhibits for yourself and embark on a great little adventure through the ages. You can currently visit the exhibition "Dead as a Dodo - Species. Dying. Yesterday. Today." Our highlights: The large circular viewing tank with a capacity of around 90,000 liters of water and the huge skeleton of a woolly mammoth cow - very impressive. We never cease to be amazed every time we visit.
