JISR/Bridge
[JISR is a collective from Munich led by the charismatic linguist, singer and Gembri player Dr. Mohcine Ramdan. He gathered some of Bavaria ́s finest musicians to share his vision of an emotional Pan- Oriental sound that is deeply rooted in the tradition of his family of musicians in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Their live performance offers a unique fusion of Arabic Maqam, the polyrhythm of Gnawa music, World Spiritual Jazz & a bit of Afro Kraut and sets a new landmark in how to unite the diversity of diasporic music in Europe in a one stage set. Truly mesmerizing & a must see.
[DE] "Jisr" / Brücke is the name of the international ensemble founded in Munich in 2016 around the Moroccan-born Gembri player and singer Mohcine Ramdan. In congenial collaboration with internationally renowned musicians, the ensemble knows how to unite maximum musical diversity in one stage setting.
Jisr stands for music that reflects today's life, today's society, today's reality in all its facets. Together with other art forms, Jisr observes, explores and processes what surrounds us: People, society, nature, the normalities and absurdities of today. The group, which consists of 6 permanent instrumentalists from 5 countries and is organized on a grassroots democratic basis, prefers to play a diverse repertoire, which is covered by the core line-up of gembri, accordion, trumpet, drums, vibraphone and violin. The individual members are at home in classical Arabic music, jazz, Afro-Gnawa music, progressive and kraut rock, tango, Balkan folk and other styles.
