Drinking coffee and reading the newspaper - we have been offering this wonderful combination in fair trade and organic form with our tazpresso since 2004. As is typical of the taz, there was no purely commercial interest behind the development of this product in the beginning.
At the beginning of the 2000s, the taz management, together with the advertising department, was looking for ways to have its own coffee blended and produced for the company. Originally, this proprietary blend was simply intended to quench the taz employees' unquenchable thirst for coffee. Good reporting has always needed an alert mind!

But the idea got bigger when the importer GEPA came on board, because they were able to offer us exactly what we wanted: A coffee or espresso made purely from African beans. The reason for this was that the taz had (and still has) a unique Africa coverage. Coffee from Africa was still a rarity back then and it was important to us to get fair-trade coffee from cooperatives that operate on the basis of organic farming.
Even then, we were convinced that this espresso would also be appreciated outside the taz. After an extensive coffee tasting among the editors, the best blend was chosen in a democratic process. The tazpresso was born.
Now our favorite espresso is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We still enjoy it every day, and not just within the taz. It has also become the best-selling product in the taz store .
To mark the anniversary, we invite you to our taz canteen. Our partner GEPA will talk about its work in Africa and present various cooperatives. Purchasing manager Franziska Bringe reports on her visits to the plantations on site. Robert Baluku, General Manager of the Bukonzo Joint coffee cooperative, will join us live from Uganda.
Visitors can look forward to a little surprise and buy the tazpresso at a special price!
