25 years of Schlitterclub - a lively cultural festival on the Nymphenburg Canal

Anniversary program combines light art, music, readings and performances with winter ice fun - unconventional, uncommercial and accessible to all

When the first Advent dawns, the traditional ice skating venue of the Nymphenburg Canal, which has been operated by the Schlitterclub for a quarter of a century this season, is transformed into a cultural winter stage: operator Martin Heinemann is celebrating his 25th anniversary and invites you to the "KulturKanal" with a varied program - directly at the Hubertusbrunnen, with a view of Nymphenburg Palace, will open on the four Advent weekends before the start of the anniversary.

The Kulturkanal will open on Friday, 28.11.25 with musical accompaniment from DJs G.RAG and Autoscooter (from Munich radio station Zündfunk), who will offer a foretaste of the varied program celebrating the long tradition of this location. A top-class mix of cultural professionals have come together to celebrate the anniversary with a program of music, literature, dance, performing arts, movement and culinary offerings, e.g. a special cover concert with Danielle de Picciotto and Alexander Hacke, Alex Weidner with Ambient Guitar Landscapes, DJ G.Rag, Mondo Infernale, the Gutfeeling DJs Prof. Deluxxe and Autoscooter, the Zündfunk DJs and Munich club DJs, readings of international fairy tales performed by Munich actresses and actors (including Franziska Schlattner, Genoveva Mayer and Steffen Wink), as well as dance performances and Taichi activities to join in with and much more.

The silent disco headphones on offer are a special experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in a silent world of sound - whether listening to a reading, dancing, walking or simply letting the place take effect on them, allowing the canal and the fountain itself to become a narrative backdrop.

Tradition and togetherness are at the heart of the Schlitterclub and, as has always been the case, food and drink are also provided. The program on the Advent weekends is rounded off with drinks and snacks to suit the season: with warming mulled wine, other drinks, classic and changing international snacks and, on Sundays, white sausages.

And as soon as the ice is ready, the area at the end of the canal once again becomes a public stage for exercise and the joy of ice skating.
