29. Videokunst Förderpreis - Borrowed Time

In the organizer's words:

From August 14 to September 19, Galerie Mitte will present the works of the winners of the 29th Bremen Video Art Promotion Prize in the exhibition *Borrowed Time*: *QUARTZ* by Patrick Peljhan and *Chasing Dawn, Dusk Passed* by Johanna Strobel. The VKP exhibition at Galerie Mitte builds on a tradition spanning more than 30 years of promoting the development and visibility of video art, creating a space where the moving image can be experienced in all its diversity as an art form in its own right.

The work QUARTZ by Patrick Peljhan impressed the jury with its “[…] poetic distillation of historical processes within a personal family history. QUARTZ is a project that is powerful both artistically and in terms of content, offering a compelling perspective on the complexity of migration, labor, and memory.”

Johanna Strobel “[…] succeeds in bringing together questions of environmental destruction, human responsibility, and the creation of cultural myths, and in presenting them within an impressive experiential space.” She particularly impressed the jury with her “[…] rigor and depth of artistic execution, as well as [the] social relevance of the project.”

The exhibition *Borrowed Time* at Galerie Mitte thus brings together two distinct and independent artistic positions that nevertheless intersect in one respect: Both explore shared time—within a family or between humans and other species.

The VKP is an award presented by Filmbüro Bremen e. V. with support from the Senator for Culture. In cooperation with the Bremen Women Artists’ Association, GEDOK.
