In the organizer's words:
30 Years of Karrera Klub Weekender – 2 Nights with Bands and DJs
The mother of all indie parties is turning 30! Who would have thought that three decades ago, on that Friday in May 1996? A small party at Huxleys Jr. in Berlin Neukölln, complete with a Carrera racetrack, marked the birth of the Karrera Klub, which has since grown into an event agency. One of the first bands to play for us was a group called “Stiller”; later, “Sportfreunde” joined them, and the rest is history. Many bands that are now big names made their Berlin debuts at Karrera: Franz Ferdinand, The Kills, and The Killers at the Roter Salon, Kettcar at the Bastard, La Roux at the Lovelite, Tomte at the old Privatclub, Bilderbuch, MGMT, Johnossi and Of Monsters And Men at the Lido, Arctic Monkeys and The Wombats at the Mudd Club, Arcade Fire, The Libertines, The XX, LCD Soundsystem, Shout Out Louds, Maxïmo Park and Mando Diao at the old Magnet, Editors and Kaiser Chiefs at the Postbahnhof, Kings of Leon and Modest Mouse at the Columbiaclub, Mumford & Sons and Two Door Cinema Club at Rosis, and even Adele had her first Berlin performance there, as a support act at a party. The list seems endless, and we’ve also had the privilege of hosting legends like Oscar winner Glen Hansard, the Beatsteaks at the far-too-small Magnet, Paul Weller at the Schillertheater, Henry Rollins at the Passionskirche, and most recently Burt Bacharach at the Admiralspalast!
But the Karrera Klub wasn’t just a force to be reckoned with at home games. We also racked up points on the road, with festival appearances at Tempelhof Sounds 2022, Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Rock am Ring, Melt!Festival, Immergut, Berlin Festival, Jenseits von Millionen, and at the Malzfabrik. Even in cities like Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Dresden, Bochum, and Leipzig, the records were—and in some cases still are—played regularly.
For the past seven years, the craving for live concerts has actually been satisfied. Since March 2019, the Karrera Klub hasn’t hosted any concerts, but only parties where people still dance their hearts out!
Reason enough to celebrate the 30th anniversary in a big and extensive way. This time, once again with bands and DJs over two days at the Astra Kulturhaus in Berlin.

Shout Out Louds:
For us, one of the greatest Swedish indie-pop bands of all time. Over 20 years ago, the Shout Out Louds released their acclaimed debut album “Howl Howl Gaff Gaff,” featuring now-iconic hits like “Please Please Please,” “The Comeback,” and “Very Loud.” The album marked the beginning of a long international career that included worldwide tours with the hottest bands of the time, such as The Strokes and Kings of Leon. Now the band is coming back to play for us again. Here they will perform songs from their debut album and other hits from their long career.

Maxïmo Park
It is rightly considered one of the most outstanding debut albums of the 2000s—if not of all time: With “A Certain Trigger,” Maxïmo Park shook up the British music scene like hardly any other band. The mix of unadulterated punk attitude, irresistible pop melodies, their distinctive accent, and above all, a ton of energy instantly made the album a classic. That was over 20 years ago!
Their hit singles “Apply Some Pressure” and “Books From Boxes” remain anthems of the golden indie-disco era of the 2000s to this day. Reason enough to invite Maxïmo Park to our birthday celebration.

Friska Viljor
The Swedish duo was the last band to perform at Karrera Klub in the spring of 2019 and is guaranteed to bring pure good vibes. They’ve played here multiple times and even spun records as DJs; Friska Viljor will perform for us with a stripped-down lineup: just Daniel Johansson and Joakim Sveningsson on stage. No band, no safety net. Intimate, up close, and honest—the songs that carried us, the stories behind them, and an audience that was always more than just an audience. Two people. Twenty years. Their hits “Oh Oh,” “The Cure,” and “Shotgun Sister” still play at almost every Karrera Klub party today!

Julia Effekt
The Viennese band Julia Effekt draws its German-language sound from a clearly recognizable tension between musical influences: the cool urgency of Joy Division meets the rhythmic drive of Kraftwerk and is complemented by the dark elegance of The Cure. At the same time, modern references to acts like Interpol or Boy Harsher can be heard, without the band losing its distinctiveness.
Their song “Die Messe” can certainly hold its own against the classics of the post-punk genre and has the potential to become an insider tip at any indie disco. Sold-out shows on their last tour give us hope for more!

Temmis
The band from Tübingen blends the spirit of the new Neue Deutsche Welle with modern synth-pop and post-punk. Driving beats, catchy melodies, and German-language lyrics that oscillate between big-city melancholy and club energy define their sound. With their releases, high-energy live shows, and growing attention in the indie and club scenes, Temmis have established themselves as an exciting new act somewhere between DAF, Fehlfarben, and contemporary electro-post-punk.
The Frank And Walters
For us, this band from Cork, Ireland, is true indie history. In the early nineties, Oasis’s Noel Gallagher was their roadie, and Radiohead and Suede opened for them on their tours. The songs “After All” and “Plenty Times” remain timeless classics of the genre to this day. Rarely has a band played at the Karrera Klub so often. In the early 2000s, they also went on a joint tour through Germany. We’re really looking forward to seeing them again. The Frank & Walters will be performing here as a duo!

Floodlights
The band emerged from Melbourne’s DIY scene. Their songs blend driving guitars with profound, often socially critical lyrics. In doing so, they manage to sound both vulnerable and powerful. With a mix of post-punk, indie rock, and folk, as well as a balance of relaxed, intimate passages and raw intensity, they quickly established themselves as an artist to watch. With every release, their fan base grows far beyond Australia. Anyone who loves emotional intensity and authentic sound will be hooked right away. Floodlights aren’t just hype—they’ll be playing a short set as the opener on Saturday!
