The anniversary slam with giants and old acquaintances
When Günther Kahrs, alias Meister Propper, opened one of the first poetry slam stages in the German-speaking world, first in a basement in Weberstraße and three years later in the Lagerhaus cultural center, there was a lot of confusion: Is this still poetry or already hip-hop? It is now clear that poetry slam is one of the most influential literary movements in the country and continues to produce talented performers who get their own TV shows, go viral and win literary and cabaret awards.
The gala "30 Years of Poetry Slam in Bremen - The Anniversary Slam with Giants and Old Acquaintances at Theater Bremen" will bring stage poets from three decades to Bremen's biggest stage at Theater am Goetheplatz on 9 November. As part of a sparkling poetry competition (poetry slam), the show aims to create an inspiring and rousing arc with intense texts, touching and crazy or insanely touching performances and protagonists from thirty years of Slam Bremen.
