30 Years of Time Warp

One of the most important indoor festivals of electronic music culture in the world takes place in Mannheim every spring - Time Warp. The multimedia exhibition shows partly unpublished photographs and films from the eventful history of the event. The festival organizers from cosmopop GmbH are opening up their digital archives for the first time and presenting the visual highlights of the collection on 25 screens. They are skillfully playing with the boundaries between the analog and digital worlds.

From Ludwigshafen to the world

Time Warp celebrated its premiere in Ludwigshafen's Walzmühle in 1994. Since 2000, it has had a permanent home on the Maimarkt grounds in Mannheim and attracts up to 20,000 visitors from over 80 countries to the city of squares every year. In the meantime, the event has also been a hit in other countries and this year is a guest in Madrid, Sao Paulo and Miami - always organized by the Mannheim Musikhaus am Neckar.

The exhibition

The multimedia exhibition shows, among other things, series of revelers by Peter Wörnle from 1995, countless photographs by scene chronicler Ernst Stratmann and a portrait series by Luigi Toscano, who has attracted worldwide attention with his project "Against Forgetting". His series was created in 2006 and 2007 and shows important artists of electronic music culture in a restrained black and white look, which at the same time creates a great closeness between the viewer and the person portrayed. At the end of the 1990s, the Frankfurt media artist and photographer Sascha Luond filmed at Time Warp for the first time and his photographs convey the feeling of the endless night to visitors.
