In the organizer's words:

Hans Heinrich Wartenburg terrorizes his relatives and servants and does not retire, even though his son has long been running the business.

Unexpectedly, he organizes a cocktail party and the whole clan has to be there. But suddenly he is "dead", apparently poisoned. Everyone is in a tizzy and everyone blames everyone else. When an inspector turns up at the party, the panic is great.

Everyone tries to conceal the crime, as everyone would have had a different reason for getting rid of the patriarch. They play up a happy group and a great party to the inspector.
But when the "corpse" also disappears in the middle of the night, it becomes all the more confusing for everyone...
