4th of July-Party - Celebrating Culture & Democracy

250 years of the USA: Dortmund celebrates democracy, culture and transatlantic friendship on July 4

Burgers and baseball, live music and line dancing: Dortmund is celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4 with music, talks, sport and culture. The focus will be on democratic values, international encounters and close ties with the USA.

On July 4, 2026, it will be Happy Independence Day for the 250th time! It will be the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the United States. Dortmund joins in the celebrations and invites you to a big party around the town hall under the motto "Celebrating Culture & Democracy". The town hall and the city garden will become places of encounter, exchange and joint celebration of democratic values.

With concerts, discussions, sports activities, hands-on activities and cultural contributions, the City of Dortmund and the Technical University of Dortmund as organizers, together with many partners, invite you to experience and critically reflect on the diverse relationships between Dortmund and the USA. The festival is part of the annual program "USA@250 - Experiment Democracy", in which around 40 institutions from science, culture, business, education and civil society in Dortmund are participating.
