PICK OF THE DAY

You cannot miss this event.

In the organizer's words:

BERLIN GLOBAL turns five - and has been telling the stories of Berlin's interdependence with the world on 4,000 square meters in the Humboldt Forum since 2021. The exhibition is shaped by initiatives, artists, experts and associations who contribute their perspectives and make BERLIN GLOBAL a polyphonic place.

On July 4, we will celebrate this anniversary together with you: We invite you to free guided tours and discussions in the exhibition until the afternoon. From late afternoon, a varied live program awaits you in the courtyard.

Free admission, the exhibition is open until 10 pm.

Open-air tour: Exclusive insights into the creation of the three special exhibitions

12:00 - 13:00 Meeting point: Berlin exhibition entrance area, 1st floor

The open spaces are three special areas in the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition. The small special exhibitions are not curated by the museum, but by groups and organizations from the city. The focus is on topics and perspectives on Berlin's past and present that have received little visibility to date.

The curators Brenda Spiesbach and Sophie Perl will guide you through the three current open space projects:

  • Dara Tûyê - درخت توت - The Mulberry Tree by Flamingo e.V. explores transnational gardens as places of remembrance, healing, knowledge transfer and feminist resistance.
  • Time Machine Infinitum. Queer migrant Berlin by Noam Gorbat, Omar Nicolas and Sama Ahmadi invites you on a multimedia journey through time in Berlin. It combines past, present and future to highlight and value the presence and cultural heritage of queer migrants and BIPoC.
  • If I were king... Young visions from Neukölln by the Bürgerstiftung Neukölln shows the visions of the future of young people from Neukölln. With a view to school, public space and the world, they call for more justice, freedom of expression, peace and cohesion.

Curatorial tour: A look behind the scenes of BERLIN GLOBAL

1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Meeting point: Entrance area of the Berlin exhibition, 1st floor

On 4,000 square meters, the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition presents seven thematic rooms: Revolution, Free Space, Borders, Pleasure, War, Fashion and Interdependence. These rooms shed light on Berlin's multi-layered connections with the world.

In this guided tour, Brinda Sommer, Program Manager at the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin and head of the BERLIN GLOBAL curatorial team until 2021, will give a special look behind the scenes of the exhibition. On the tour, visitors will gain exclusive insights into the development process of BERLIN GLOBAL: from the initial conceptual ideas and key curatorial decisions to the questions and challenges that accompanied the team during development.

Drop-ins & Workshops

City Waste Art: creative workshop with the artist Giò di Sera

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm WELTSTUDIO

"City Waste" is a creative street art workshop at BERLIN GLOBAL in which we creatively explore waste, recycling and sustainability. Together we build our own 3D city models and street signs - from what is actually thrown away: Plastic, cardboard, packaging and more.

In the end, a common urban vision is created from many individual parts. Inspired by street culture, street art and upcycling, we show how waste can become real art - and how the circular economy is not just theory, but can be experienced creatively. You can also take your own creations home with you. In cooperation with StreetUniverCity Berlin e.V.

Breakdance workshop - the history of breaking in Berlin

1:00 pm - 2:20 pm & 2:40 pm - 4:00 pm WELTSTUDIO

A dance journey through the history of breakdancing in Berlin: José aka Beatsurfer (City Rockers Crew) gives insights into the beginnings of breakdancing in Berlin from 1983 - with vivid, practical examples from the old school. B-Boy Niven (Got the Flava Crew) shows how breaking has evolved to this day and which styles and techniques characterize the scene in 2026. In cooperation with StreetUniverCity Berlin e.V.

Meet the Curator: Pop-up talks with the exhibition organizers

2:30 pm - 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm, 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm & 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Various rooms in the exhibition

Do you ever wonder how an exhibition comes about? Whose stories flow into it? How is the room design created? And how do exhibition organizers deal with sensitive or controversial topics? BERLIN GLOBAL is a joint product - not only of a large museum team, but also of numerous cooperation partners from Berlin's urban society. Each room has a complex history that is difficult to comprehend after the exhibition opens.

For the 5th anniversary, exhibition organizers offer a look behind the scenes. They will talk about decisions, challenges and moments of success and answer any questions you may have.

Organizational note: The short pop-up talks will take place in the exhibition space without seating.

Open air in the Schlüterhof

The Stadtmuseum presenters Anjouna Novak and Franziska Schlüter lead through the evening.

Opening of the live program on the big stage 16:45 - 17:00

With Sophie Plagemann, Artistic Director of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin, and Paul Spies, Chief Curator of BERLIN GLOBAL and former Director of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin and President of ICOM Germany

Claire Waldoff: But I just want to sing about life... A musical biography by & with Sigrid Grajek

17:00 - 17:30

On the piano: Stefanie Rediske

From 1907 to 1935, Claire Waldoff was the star on the stages of the great cabarets and variety theaters - not only in Berlin, where she lived in the Bavarian Quarter. She appeared in a tie and collar, smoked a pipe and cigar, tipped Nordhäuser Korn with the painter Heinrich Zille and could swear like a dustman. Her voice was what you would call a "real tube" - and she hit the right note like no other, reaching people because she wanted to "sing about life". Her songs became popular hits that every child knew. She was already a "new woman" before the term even existed.

Against the backdrop of German history, actress Sigrid Grajek traces the life story of an extraordinary artist through song and drama.

DJ set: Femdelic

5:35 pm - 6:00 pm & 6:35 pm - 7 pm

Dance into the evening with Berlin DJ icon Femdelic! DJ Femdelic switches effortlessly between the different facets of funk: electro boogie, afro, house and disco, always enriching her sets with undiscovered treasures from her huge record collection. The relationship and interplay between rhythm, groove and body movement are deeply rooted in Femdelic's DNA. With technical finesse, a feel for what works on the dance floor and the right timing for surprising twists and turns, Femdelic gets the Schlüterhof dancing - that's what makes it so magical!

Romani Weiss Swingtett with a guest appearance by Malika Alaoui

18:00 - 18:30

Join us for Sinti Swing and Jazz Manouche in its liveliest form - virtuosic, rousing and full of joy. The renowned musicians Romani Weiss, Hannah Bienert, Manolito Steinbach and Axel Obert combine the unmistakable Django Reinhardt sound with elements from the Great American Songbook, classic jazz manouche and contemporary jazz. The band presents authentic Sinti swing, fine improvisations and emotional solos. As a special highlight, the band has invited guest singer Malika Alaoui. Alaoui has worked with renowned artists and spent four years on tour around the world as the lead singer in Cirque du Soleil's Alegría - she will enchant the Schlüterhof for us.

Anthony Hüseyin

7:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Anthony Hüseyin is a non-binary, queer, interdisciplinary artist working in the fields of music theater, performance art and contemporary opera. Born in Şanlıurfa, Turkey, Hüseyin currently lives in Berlin.

At Schlüterhof, Anthony Hüseyin invites the audience into a musical landscape characterized by change, memory and resistance.

At the heart of the program is "Project O" - a transdisciplinary work that unfolds as both a personal and artistic search for gender, voice and belonging. Based on the Turkish pronoun "O", which simultaneously means "he", "she" and "it", the work moves in cycles without beginning or end, tracing a return to childhood, memory and the formation of a non-binary self.

From this context, "O Biçim Şarkılar / O Shaped Songs" and "hOpe Shaped Songs" focus on questions of home, freedom, identity and belonging. Against the backdrop of Berlin and its realities as a city of migration, these works reveal the tension between the promise of security and the lived experience of exclusion. Hüseyin will also present excerpts from "Crime of Passion", an experimental opera that explores the historical and ongoing romanticization of violence.

DJ set: Mala

7:35 pm - 8 pm & 8:35 pm - 9:00 pm

Dance with DJ Mala to Afrobeats, Dancehall, Amapiano, Latin, Baile Funk, Hip-Hop, R&B, House and Middle Eastern sounds. DJ Mala is a Berlin-based DJ with Moroccan roots and part of Berlin's diverse club and event scene. With a keen sense of energy and crowd dynamics, she plays in different contexts from queer and FLINTA* spaces to open club and festival formats, always with a focus on vibe, movement and musical connection. For you she turns the Schlüterhof into a dancefloor.

Güner Künier

20:00 - 20:30

"Yaramaz" is a Turkish word; translated one-to-one, it means something like "good-for-nothing". The term is often used towards small children when they are cheeky and rebellious. Güner Künier called her second album "Yaramaz" to tell her own coming-of-age story using punk and post-punk. She and her band will be performing tracks from this album on our anniversary stage.

Güner Künier was born in Izmir, Turkey, in 1990 and moved to Flensburg with her family at the age of three, moving to Berlin in 2014. Her debut EP was released in 2021, followed a year later by her first album Aşk. Güner Künier is now one of the most important protagonists of the Berlin post-punk scene. Her music moves between postpunk, minimal/synthpunk - and also delivers shoegaze sounds, a velvet underground noir vibe and a bit of krautrock as well as echoes of Riot Grrrl. Look forward to it!

BABYJOY

21:00 - 22:00

Since 2018, Joy Grant aka BABYJOY has been celebrated as one of the most exciting newcomers and great hopes of German-language rap. Today, it is impossible to imagine the Berlin hip-hop and RnB scene without her. For the anniversary festival, she will be headlining the Schlüterhof stage. With her soft yet raw voice, BABYJOY glides effortlessly over trap beats, combines jazz, RnB and conscious rap - and switches effortlessly between German, English and French. Her sound is multi-layered, urban and unmistakable.

With family roots in the USA and France, she was musically influenced at an early age: Her father was a musician himself and music was always present. Her own entry into the world of music was therefore only a matter of time. After a brief, ultimately abandoned jazz education, BABYJOY continued on her own artistic path. The debut EP "Troubadour" (2021) was followed by numerous feature and collaboration requests, including from Ahzumjot and badchieff. With "Ophelia" (2022), she showed a powerful and soulful side and created songs full of dynamism and depth. "Berlin Day & Night" (2025) finally captures the many facets of the city - raw, vibey, by day and by night.

Dance together with BABYJOY from the Berlin day into the night!
