A Chinese Ghost Story
On his journey through the province, the kind-hearted Ling spends the night in a dilapidated temple. What he doesn’t realize is that the building is home to a ghostly girl, as beautiful as she is deadly. Against all odds, the undead Siu Sihn and Ling fall in love. In doing so, they incur the wrath of a cruel tree demon. The couple finds help from a sword master who is determined to destroy the hellish creature anyway. The battle against the monster and an entire underworld army is unleashed.
For the first time since the festival’s inception, we are once again screening this spectacular wuxia fantasy masterpiece, in a magnificent 4K restoration. Even some forty years after its creation, the tender romance, the imaginative (stop-motion) effects, and the weightless, masterfully choreographed fight sequences continue to enchant. Magical!
