When an elevator factory in crisis-ridden Portugal is threatened with insolvency, the workers are to be placated with severance pay. After heated debates about politics and activism, a group of workers oppose the plan and occupy the workplace.

The epic mix of drama, documentary scenes and criticism of the system, staged with amateur actors, describes an act of self-empowerment in which the discourse on globalization, structural change and capitalism is transformed into an emancipatory act.
