In the organizer's words:

Abdul Samad Habibi - Rubab

Born in 1954 in Kabul, Afghanistan.
He has been interested in the traditional music of Afghanistan since early childhood and wanted to learn to play the rubab. He studied the rubab with the master Ustad Mahamad Omar Sultane and had already performed in Kabul during his studies as an officer.
He plays pieces whose lyrics are embedded in Pashtu and Farsi. He likes to quote melodies by Ahmed Zaher and Ahmed Wali, but is also very well versed in old traditional Afghan pieces.

Parviz Ayan - Tabla

Born in Kabul. Started playing tabla at the age of 13.
Learned for many years from great North Indian tabla masters like Guruji Pt. Biplab Mondal and Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar.
Parviz Ayan has learned the Afghan and Indian tabla technique excellently and has thus developed his very own style.

Parviz Ayan and Abdul Samad Habibi have been playing with the group Embryo for over 15 years.

Embryo

Embryo is a unique music collective from Munich that combines Kraut Rock Jazz, free improvisation, inner and non-European rhythms and sounds like no other. Embryo has existed since 1969, spanning generations, genres and borders. They have played with Mal Waldron, Okay Temiz, Fela Kuti, Charlie Mariano and many others.
Marja Burchard, daughter of founder Christian Burchard, took over the band she grew up in in 2015. Since then, Embryo has lived on with her, always searching for new sounds, rhythms and ideas from those who think differently.
Since 1979 until today, Embryo has been in musical contact with Afghan master musicians. On their trip to India through Afghanistan in 1978, they had the honor of meeting the great masters Ustad Mohamad Omar and Ustad Malang Nedjrabi and many others and to play and record with them.

The pieces from back then are still played today by the musicians of the new embryo generation, as well as being relearned and reinterpreted by new Afghan masters and songs, such as those of Abdul Samad Habibi and Parviz Ayan.
