"As if it were yesterday" is a collection of loving memories of victims of right-wing and racist violence: an evening that invites collective remembrance, an act of appropriation of historiography, a celebration of life and confidence, despite everything.
This country has countless victims of racist and right-wing violence. At best, the atrocities they suffered are remembered, but we know little about their life stories. What were their hopes and worries? What did they laugh and cry about, dream about and fight for? Director Ayşe Güvendiren asks what a different form of remembrance could look like and focuses on the perspective of relatives and survivors: experiences that are important to them are retold on stage. Songs that they have wished for in memory of their murdered loved ones are interpreted by members of the ensemble. Because the memory lives!
