Vienna in the 1780s: Court composer Antonio Salieri is at odds with God that Mozart, an obscene child, should be the chosen genius and that he himself is gifted with nothing but mediocrity. And although he is the only one who recognizes the unique quality of Mozart's music, he decides to poison Mozart's life through intrigue and humiliation. "Amadeus" - the beloved of God - thus becomes a weapon for Salieri against this God, whom he wants to teach a lesson - a great theatrical spectacle that goes beyond historical accuracy to make the timelessness of Mozart's music palpable in a very touching way and also shows that ambition is no guarantee of success.
