In the organizer's words:
“It takes years to learn how to develop your own style. I was six years old when I first walked into a recording studio. I immediately felt right at home. I grew up in Toronto, a diverse, multicultural city, in a family that was itself very diverse, and so I was exposed to all kinds of music, regardless of genre.”
Amanda Marshall
In the summer of 1990, at just sixteen, Amanda Marshall met Canadian guitar legend Jeff Healey. Impressed by her talent, Healey invited the then-unknown singer to join him on his tour of Canada. “He not only introduced me to a whole range of new musical influences that I was immediately drawn to—Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Whitley, and many others,” said Marshall. Inspired by the guitarist, she decided to pursue a career in music.
In 1991, Columbia Records offered her a record deal, which Marshall turned down. It wasn’t until 1994 that she accepted an offer from Sony Records. Her parents had to co-sign the contract because Amanda wasn’t old enough yet.
Her self-titled album was released in late 1995, producing two international Top Ten hits: “Let It Rain” and “Birmingham.” Within a year, she received a diamond record for the album, which sold over a million copies in her home country of Canada.
In total, the album was certified gold or platinum in 15 countries. Here in Germany, “Amanda Marshall” stayed on the charts for a full 22 weeks. In 1996, she received an invitation from Peter Maffay to accompany him on his tour of Germany.
Her next two albums, *Tuesday’s Child* (1999) and *Everybody’s Got a Story* (2001), both of which achieved multi-platinum status, were every bit as successful. At the end of the last millennium, Amanda Marshall’s second album remained on the German album charts for 18 weeks.
“Music has taken me all over the world. I’ve met many of the people I’ve recorded and performed with—whose albums were on the shelves in my parents’ living room during my formative years,” she says. “It was a humbling and exciting experience; I asked them all kinds of questions and tried to learn as much as possible from every collaboration.”
After 2002, things went quiet for the Canadian singer. The reason was a legal dispute with her label at the time, which led to all her activities being restricted until further notice. That same year, Marshall also parted ways with her management team. Several “Best Of” albums were released up until 2008, and it wasn’t until June 2023, after nearly a quarter-century, did Amanda Marshall release new music with her album “Heavy Lifting”—which she will perform live, alongside the hits and classics of her career, on July 30, 2026, at an exclusive showcase in Mainz.
