The members of the Unter'n Linden salon orchestra are united by the desire to make music in the border area of so-called "salon music". With the program "An den Zaubermond", the salon orchestra gives joint concerts with Dagmar Manzel. The dress rehearsal will take place on July 9 at the KulturMarktHalle with discounted admission.
About the orchestra:
Before the invention of sound carriers and radio, the most beautiful and popular works were often brought to interested audiences in small ensembles, not only in the fine bourgeois "salon" of the 19th century, which gave this genre its name, melodies from "Traviata" or the "Bride's Train" from "Lohengrin" were also heard in the popular coffee house, which is how they became popular.
The rather shallow "salon pieces" that emerged at the same time, mass-produced by a musical entertainment industry that flooded the market from the middle of the 19th century and devalued the term "salon music", were of less interest.
But there is also much to discover in the 20th century. There is the more modern operetta, the pop song and the beginning of film music.
The salon orchestra "Unter'n Linden" has been dedicated to these different genres for many years. Founded by members of the Staatskapelle Berlin in 2009, the musical director Uwe Hilprecht, previously long-time music director of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, formed the ensemble for 15 years by arranging pieces especially for the 9-piece ensemble, which always include a piece of the Berlin Staatskapelle. Since then, the salon orchestra has been a guest in numerous concert halls in the capital and on many theater stages in Germany, especially with the vocal soloists Jochen Kowalski and Winnie Böwe.
