"Every storm feels like it will never end, until it does.
Every dream feels like reality until you wake up.
Stories don't always twist in the way you expect."
Picture a ship struggling through a storm in uncharted waters. Sailing blindly towards a mysterious, unknown shore. William Shakespeare had the same vision a little over 400 years ago. His dream became The Tempest, the last play he wrote as a sole playwright. All these years later, the story he wrote lies abandoned on the page, ready for life to be breathed into it once again. But this time, things are a little bit different. Someone has played a trick with Shakespeare's text, and the characters he created may never be the same again.
An Island in the Stormy Sea is a new play written in modern English, based on the works of Shakespeare, primarily The Tempest. The play reinvents the story of Prospero, Miranda and the island they call home, bringing to the forefront themes of overcoming oppression and trauma, celebrating queerness, and love being stronger than hate. Guided by the ethereal Trickster, audiences will see that in the end it is how we tell stories that really matters.
