A recital by and featuring Nihan Devecioğlu
with audio description and tactile guidance (starts at 6:45 p.m.)
From the Black Sea coast to the Mediterranean, from Istanbul to the Iranian border—Anatolia is a unique region where diverse cultures have coexisted since time immemorial. Their stories resonate in various languages: Aramaic, Armenian, Greek, Kurdish, Laz, Sephardic, Turkish, Zaza, and many more. And what cannot be put into words—yet cannot be left unsaid—is expressed through music. In her recital “Âşıklar – The Lovers,” Nihan Devecioğlu sang about the lives of four women who embarked on a life-changing journey from Turkey to Germany in the 1960s. Now, together with ensemble members, she explores the diversity of Anatolia, tracing the female experiences that live on in the music.
