And now Hanau - Gastspiel des Staatstheaters Mainz

In the organizer's words:

On February 19, 2020, a right-wing extremist known to the police shot nine people with a history of immigration in Hanau - one of the most brutal series of murders in recent German history, which has hardly been dealt with to this day.

The playwright, director, actor and doctor Tuğsal Moğul deals with the effects of racially motivated violence in Germany in his works. In his play, Moğul lets the victims have their say and questions the many mistakes made by the police, the public prosecutor's office, politicians and the media before, during and after the attack: The assassin was already known to the police as a right-wing extremist. Why wasn't he better monitored? Why was the emergency number 110 not available on the night of the attack? Why was the emergency exit in the Arena Bar locked? How can it be that SEK officers at the scene of the crime were later exposed as right-wing extremists? In close cooperation with the "Initiative 19. February Hanau", Moğul also asks for consequences and calls for a complete investigation in order to do justice to the victims and their families and to commemorate them.

The production follows the concept of the world premiere, created as a co-production between Theater Oberhausen, Theater Münster and Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen.
