André Butzer - Ausstellung der Gesellschaft für Gegenwartskunst e.V.

In the organizer's words:

16.03.-14.07.2024 at H2 - Center for Contemporary Art in the Glaspalast

With this extensive exhibition of André Butzer's work, the Gesellschaft für Gegenwartskunst e.V. (GfG) is following on from its major monographic exhibitions of the 1990s. Since its foundation, important groups of works by Georg Baselitz, Günther Förg, Albert Oehlen and A. R. Penck have been shown in Augsburg for the first time. Even the design of the exhibition catalog is deliberately based on one of the first GfG catalogs, namely the one by Förg from 1994.

Butzer has created a cycle of 27 works on paper especially for the GfG, supplemented by a retrospective bundle of 22 sheets, the oldest of which dates from 2000. In addition to the diverse drawings and watercolors, there are seven paintings of very different sizes. This compilation exemplifies Butzer's oeuvre. The entire thematic world and his typical figures become comprehensible in their uniqueness and development.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog with contributions by Lena Tilk and Stefan Schrammel.
