In the organizer's words:
The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra was founded in Berlin in 2006 and is now regarded as one of the most distinctive and unconventional large ensembles. After four acclaimed albums and over 250 concerts in 25 countries across four continents, it is currently a twelve-piece group that can expand flexibly. It primarily performs compositions by founder Daniel Glatzel, which consistently transcend and expand musical boundaries. AMEO draws from a colorful spectrum of jazz, traditional music styles from around the world, avant-garde, indie, and electronica—but “sounds as if it belongs to a subgenre all its own” (Jazzwise).
The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra has collaborated with, among others, Hermeto Pascoal, indigenous musicians from Malawi, The Notwist, Efterklang, Sinfonietta Riga, and Anthony Braxton, and has also independently produced several festivals and carried out special projects that are regularly supported by renowned institutions. (including the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the Capital Cultural Fund, the Goethe-Institut, the Berlin Senate, and many more)
In 2026, the ensemble will celebrate its 20th anniversary—with several special programs, including performances in Berlin at Berghain, Radialsystem, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Festsaal Kreuzberg, and on tours throughout Germany, Europe, the United Kingdom, and East Asia. The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra was named the first winner of the German Jazz Prize for large ensembles in 2021, nominated again as “Ensemble of the Year” in 2024, and honored once more as “Live Act of the Year” in 2025. They have performed, sometimes multiple times, in the main halls of the Berlin, Cologne, and Elbphilharmonie concert halls, at the Roskilde Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Zürcher Festspiele, Union Chapel London, Cairo Jazz Festival, Jazzfest Berlin, EnjoyJazz, Elbjazz, JazzBaltica, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, the Hellerau Tonlagen Festival, the Leipzig Jazz Days, the International Jazz Week Burghausen, Jazz&The City Salzburg, Rigas Ritmi, Sant’Anna Arresi, and many more.
Selected press reviews:
“No other ensemble in the world sounds like them” (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
“Like a musical land of milk and honey—you can’t stop marveling.”
(Bayerischer Rundfunk)
“Even though the ensemble now leans more frequently toward an electronic aesthetic, sounding at times more expansive than ever, it retains its downright magical intensity and depth. With its current repertoire, the multifaceted AMEO solidifies its exceptional position between styles.” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)
“Fantastic. Some of the most detailed jazz writing you’re likely to find. Clearly a group on the rise that stands out.” (BBC Radio)
"It’s not often you can say with such surety that you won’t have heard anything quite like this in a while." (DJ Mag)
“Europe’s answer to the Sun Ra Arkestra, without the robes” (Uncut Magazine)
Daniel Glatzel (composition, arrangement, sax, clarinet, percussion, acoustic guitar)
Vincent Bababoutilabo, Laure Mourot, Sonja Horlacher, Oliver Roth (flutes)
