The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra was founded in Berlin in 2006 and is now regarded as one of the most unconventional large ensembles. It mainly plays compositions by its founder Daniel Glatzel, which constantly transcend and expand musical boundaries. AMEO draws from a colorful spectrum of jazz, traditional music styles from all over the world, avant-garde, independent and electronica - "but sounds as if it belongs in a completely separate sub-genre" (Jazzwise). In other words, "a musical land of milk and honey that you can't get out of" (Bayerische Rundfunk).
The music of Malawi has strongly influenced the orchestra's compositions. Largely unnoticed by the Western media, cyclones and droughts have had devastating consequences for the rural population of the East African country in recent years. These effects of climate change are exacerbated by the takeover of seed monopolies and the restructuring of the local economy according to capitalist profit logic. With this benefit concert at the Auferstehungskirche in Munich, the musicians want to draw attention to the situation in Malawi: they are sending a signal of support and donating their fees to local aid projects that counteract the acute situation.
