Lecture and discussion with Juliane Lang
Debates about gender and sexual diversity have not diminished, and certainly not become quieter in recent years. Quite the opposite: the topic of gender-equitable language, for example, is on everyone's lips. The Hessian Minister President boasts that he has issued the 'toughest gender ban' in Germany. Meanwhile, a citizens' initiative in Hamburg has failed to collect the necessary votes for a referendum with the same request in the Hanseatic city. The initiative has received open support from the AfD parliamentary group in the Hamburg parliament.
The demands for a ban on gender-inclusive language by conservative and extreme right-wing actors reflect familiar anti-feminist patterns. The lecture therefore looks at continuities and dynamics in anti-feminism and asks about current challenges.
Dr. Juliane Lang conducts research at the University of Giessen on the interactions between social gender relations and the contemporary extreme right.
