Exhibition opening and introduction by the artist and author Ruth Neureiter.
On May 10, 1933, just a few months after the National Socialists seized power
National Socialists came to power, books by authors who did not conform to the Nazis or who were of Jewish origin were publicly burned in Germany. These were works that had been banned from libraries and prohibited during the Nazi regime. Many of these writers were robbed of their means of expression, their livelihood or their lives.
In this event, we are not only paying tribute to well-known authors, but also to those who only began to write during persecution or while imprisoned in camps.
The special thing about this event is the interaction between painting, literature and music, as works of visual art and music were also ostracized as "degenerate" and removed from the public sphere.
6 pm: "Traces of writing" - Homage to the poets of the burnt books
With her work "Homage to the poets of the burned books", Ruth Neureiter has created a monument and memorial that proclaims the immortality of the "power of the word".
