ART X Counterculture
In the organizer's words:
Why are countercultures important and what can we learn from them? Petra Lange-Berndt is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Department of Art History at the University of Hamburg. Her research focuses on subcultures, countercultures and pop culture. In her current book project, she is examining biologistic, racist, nationalistic and ethnic tendencies in the life reform movement and its image production based on the founding phase of the Monte Verità sanatorium near Ascona.
The starting point for the discussion is the exhibition INNER MORNINGS, OR FORMS OF COUNTERCULTURE, which explores the question of how counterculture continues to shape contemporary art today.
The ART X discussion series brings art and society into dialog - out of the ivory tower and into current discourse. Art educators and experts from various fields discuss pressing contemporary issues in the midst of the Deichtorhallen exhibitions and open up space for reflection, debate and new perspectives. Further information and dates for the ART X series can be found on our website.
Due to the limited number of participants, tickets must be booked in advance.
