Exhibition opening & participatory painting performance

How can we tell our story? How can we connect with others through our stories? The artist Godwin Namanyabyoona tells his story without words through the spontaneous use of paint, brush and pencil.

In a participatory painting performance, he shares his knowledge and invites participants of all ages to draw and paint together. The result is a series of pictures about arriving, leaving (not) being welcome and waiting.

From 22.03. to 28.04.2025, the artist will present his own works and the picture sheet created in the joint performance in the Careteria and in the Artothek lending room.

Godwin Namanyabyoona left Uganda in 2018 to escape the pressure of the military regime. He had previously founded an independent artists' group in Kampala City. In his artistic work, he deals with Uganda's colonial history and its current manifestations, among other things. Complementary and contradictory elements in his pictures make this examination tangible.

Project IMAGINE Resil(i)ence

Fließende Geschichten / Flowing narratives is part of the IMAGINE Resil(i)ence project of the cultural and meeting space Careteria. From March 22 to June 15, 2025, it explores artistic perspectives on diasporic alliances and experiences in a diverse society. With works, films, texts and music by Cana Bilir-Meier, Aysun Bademsoy, Nihan Devecioğlu, Anujah Fernando, Semra Ertan, Initiative in memory of Yaya Jabbi and Godwin Namanyabyoona.

"IMAGINE Resil(i)ence" starts with the "International Weeks against Racism" 2025, which focus on the topic of "Flight and Migration".
