Astrid Lindgren, best known for her children's books such as "Pippi Longstocking", "Michel from Lönneberga" and "Ronja the Robber's Daughter", shaped generations of readers with her works. The documentary approaches the author in a new way, focusing on her diaries, which were written between 1939 and 1945, and tells the story of the still unknown Astrid Lindgren as a chronicler of the Second World War.

First published in 2015 and translated into more than 20 languages, Astrid Lindgren's war diaries lay hidden in her bedroom linen cupboard for 70 years. They are a unique documentation of the horrors of dictatorship and terror from the perspective of a mother and early feminist and make a passionate appeal for humanity, peace and equality.
