Robert Steng | Tobias Stutz | René Tromborg
• Opening: Thursday, September 17, 2026, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
• Exhibition dates: September 18, 2026 – January 30, 2027
At the intersections of painting, sculpture, and architecture, a dialogue emerges that stimulates perception and draws the viewer into a dynamic field between illusion and reality.
Artistic Perspectives
Robert Steng (born 1971 in Bietigheim-Bissingen; lives and works in Stuttgart)
In his works, Robert Steng masterfully shifts between the genres of relief, sculpture, and architectural installation. Using found and new pieces of wood, he constructs seemingly two-dimensional wall objects that challenge human perception. Through complex perspectival interlocking and a calculated illusion of depth, Steng evokes pictorial spaces that do not actually exist. His works playfully explore the tension between two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality. In doing so, technical precision and the history embedded in the material meet a decidedly contemporary conception of sculptural thought.
Tobias Stutz (born 1983 in Filderstadt; lives and works in the Rhineland/Bonn)
As a contemporary painter, Tobias Stutz dedicates himself to the bold geometry of classical modernism. Iconic residential architecture, interior details, and design classics form the foundation of his figurative painting. Stutz uses the laws of central perspective not merely as a constructive tool, but elevates space itself to the role of the main protagonist. Shaped by a precise interplay of light and shadow, the surrounding natural environment recedes into the background compositionally. The subtle play of light in his works evokes atmospheric qualities reminiscent of 19th-century European landscape painting, lending the tectonic rigor a deeply subjective, almost melancholic note.
René Tromborg (born 1972 in Copenhagen; lives and works there)
René Tromborg occupies a dynamic position within contemporary geometric abstraction. In his work, the structural clarity of the Bauhaus merges with the nonconformist energy of street art to create a dynamic dialogue. Rooted in the visual codes of graffiti and Pop Art, Tromborg has developed an autonomous visual language. His works transform strict, calculated geometries into vibrant rhythms of color. In this way, he achieves a synthesis of rational, architectural precision and emotional, expressive expression that transforms the canvas into a pulsating field of energy.
