In the organizer's words:
"Aufgewacht" - Reading with author Bernd Sikora and actor Lutz-Uwe Kraus: In his novel "Aufgewacht", author Bernd Sikora paints a precise picture of the gay scene in Leipzig. In fifteen episodes and an epilogue, he follows Sebastian Berger and his circle of friends, whose lives move between art college, the world of work, everyday political life and the city's subcultural venues. The scenes focus on Leipzig in a phase of upheaval and at the same time document a piece of the city's history - including the spaces in which the queer community of the 1980s developed and in which new forms of belonging were tried out.
Lutz-Uwe Kraus from the Staatstheater Wiesbaden is coming to Leipzig for the reading. Kraus himself was part of the urban art scene as a young actor and brings the contexts of the time with him from his own experience. His reading will focus on the social and cultural tensions that characterize Sikora's text.
Afterwards, Bernd Sikora will talk about the background to the novel, his research into Leipzig's art and subculture and the importance of biographical memory work in the present day.
