Ausstellungseröffnung #ChallengingDemocracy – Von Helmut Schmidt bis heute

Democracy is a challenge—every day. The exhibition by the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation addresses this challenge from both historical and contemporary perspectives. It takes a biographical look at Helmut Schmidt as a key figure in contemporary history and connects the issues and debates of the Federal Republic from the late 1960s through the 1980s with current debates. Then as now, people ask themselves: What protects democracy? What threatens democracy? How social is democracy? And how sustainable is democracy, anyway? 

Together with the students of the “History and Politics Project Seminar 2025/2027” at the Chiemgau Gymnasium in Traunstein, the content of the traveling exhibition was prepared over the course of a year, and a thematic module and an extensive program of events were curated.
