Baloji, born in Lubumbashi, Congo (CD), is a multi-talented rapper, songwriter, director, poet, stylist and actor. He grew up in Liège, Belgium, and started rapping in the 90s in the trio Malfrats Linguistiques, which later became the world-famous hip-hop group Starflam.

Baloji's music moves between African music, rap, French singer-songwriter tradition, Afro-American soul, funk and jazz. He found his way to this via hip-hop and the technique of sampling. But he has also been inspired by electronic music. Baloji's perseverance and resilience are at the heart of his work. He manages to harmonize all these different influences and enrich his creative projects with them.

In 2008, he released his first, very personal solo album "Hôtel Impala", which was awarded gold and two Octaves de la Musique. This was followed by the album "Kinshasa Succursale" in 2010 and the EP "64 Bits and Malachite" in 2015.

After his third album "137 Avenue Kaniama" from 2018, he is now back with a monumental project: "Augure/Omen" (2023) is his first feature film as a director and tells the story of a man who returns from Belgium to his Congolese home village. The film is accompanied by a powerful soundtrack consisting of 4 EPs, each taking the perspective of one of the four main protagonists of the film.

The soundtrack is full of collaborations: Sampa The Great, Dj Lag, Jose James, IDPIzzle, Jamilia Woods, Natalie Bergman and many others join Baloji in creating musical worlds of the highest order. The result is a captivating mix of hip-hop, Afrobeats, electronica, traditional singing, Congolese rumba and many other styles.
