The next "Baukunst Lecture" at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in cooperation with the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia will take place on January 19 - this time with Valentijn and Olivier Goethals from the Belgian collective "019" (Ghent).

The Belgian collective "019" describes itself as a transdisciplinary platform that aims to create spaces for experimentation, collaboration and encounters between architecture, graphic design and the visual arts. In this context, "019" questions common forms of exhibition in artistic and non-artistic spaces and develops new approaches, according to the collective.

From a project space in Ghent, in public spaces and in institutions in Belgium and abroad, the collective aims to create new interfaces between art and society.

Valentijn Goethals and Olivier Goethals will present the work of "019" in a lecture and discussion.

Valentijn Goethals is a graphic designer, visual artist and musician based in Ghent, Belgium. He graduated from Werkplaats Typografie (Arnhem, NL) in 2013 and works in the fields of contemporary art, design, publishing and education. He is a founding member of "019" and Kunsthal Gent, two organizations that have significantly shaped the cultural landscape of Ghent. Within 019, he is actively involved in the development of experimental exhibition formats, spatial interventions and collaborative design strategies.

Olivier Goethals studied architecture and urban development and works simultaneously as an architect and artist. In his work, he explores the connection between space and consciousness. Goethals has created spatial interventions and artistic installations for venues such as Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam, Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin and Ruhrtriennale Bochum. His drawings and paintings have been shown at the Palais de Tokyo Paris, Kunstverein Arnsberg and the Biennale Lyon, among others. He previously worked as a freelance architect for De Vylder Vinck Taillieu (2008-2016). He has been teaching at the KU Leuven's Department of Architecture since 2010. Olivier Goethals is an active member of "019".
