Begegnung mit Kurt Lanthaler, dem Autor von "Vorabbericht in Sachen der Zona Cesarini"

As part of the literature series, in which current literature is presented with the voices of its representatives, the Italian Cultural Institute Cologne is organizing an encounter with Kurt Lanthaler, the author of Vorabbericht in Sachen der Zona Cesarini (Folio Verlag, Vienna/Bolzano 2024).

The conversation, which will be held in German with simultaneous translation, will be moderated by Anna Vollmer and will take place on Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p. m. in the Theatersaal of the Italian Cultural Institute Cologne.

A few months old, Renato Cesarini was carried off the ship as a baby in Buenos Aires in 1907. Four weeks of traveling below deck lie behind him and the more than a thousand Italian emigrants crammed together. In a century full of contradictions ,Cesariniwould cross the Atlantic several times, there and back.Always wearing new shoes made by his father, a Neapolitan shoemaker, he dribbles his way from child pickpocket and circus acrobat from the Boca to soccer star of two national teams (ARG/ITA), becomes a champagne drinker, night-time scene-goer and operator of a tangueria in Torino. In the company of agents, boxing world champions, a Mussolini mistress, Albert Einstein and his monkey Scimmi.

Kurt Lanthaler, born in Bolzano in 1960, has lived in Berlin since 1987. He writes novels, poetry, plays and translates Roberto Alajmo and Peppe Lanzetta from Italian. Following his novels Napule and Das Delta ,he is once again tackling an Italian subject.

Anna Vollmer studied Italian, English and history in Heidelberg and Rome. She works as a journalist for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, among others.
