Exhibition from 06.02. - 20.03.2026 Behausung | Painting by Katrin Schütte Katrin Schütte's artistic exploration of the theme of house and building focuses on the symbolic representation of our human living space. The house appears as a universal symbol that goes far beyond its function as an architectural shelter. At a time of housing shortages and social insecurity, when many people are living in temporary accommodation, tents or emergency shelters, the house becomes an ambivalent symbol: It stands equally for security and loss, for localization and uprootedness. The painter explores the archetypal form of the house - reduced to its essential elements - and examines how this archetypal figure can be transformed in various formal and painterly approaches. The houses appear as ciphers, as culturally stored images that evoke their own memories and associations in each viewer. The house thus becomes a projection space for individual and collective ideas of home, identity and protection. Her works, executed in oil or acrylic on canvas, move between figuration and abstraction. Dynamic brushstrokes, overlapping and color movements create pictorial spaces in which construction and destruction merge. The house forms appear fragmentarily, dissolve again or remain as traces in the color ground. In other works, only lines, structures or rhythmic patterns are visible, which are reminiscent of the idea of a house without naming it specifically. The symbolic power of the forms invites reflection: The viewers form their own house, their own idea of space and belonging in the mental confrontation. In this way, the seemingly simple motif becomes a medium that mediates between personal memory, social reality and artistic gesture.
