Ben Caplan in Germany for six concerts in April
A voice as powerful as a beard - few can claim that. Canadian folk singer Ben Caplan is captivating and powerful in many ways, but at the same time introspective and gentle. With his melodramatic, peculiar romanticism, he has been regarded as one of the most extraordinary artists on the modern folk scene for over 15 years.
Growing up in Hamilton, Canada, Caplan played guitar as a teenager. At 19, he decided to go his own way as a singer-songwriter. Since 2006, he has performed on countless stages with his band "The Casual Smokers", while at the same time working on his debut album "In The Time of the Great Remembering", which was released in 2011. His unconditional will to escape any categorization was already evident here: Between modern folk, the rich tradition of Eastern European folk songs and classical ballads, he spans a broad musical spectrum. And always at the center: his unmistakable voice. Usually a deep baritone, it can scream, whisper, breathe or sing softly - pure emotion. This expressiveness has earned him rave reviews and several Canadian music awards. The follow-up album "Birds with Broken Wings" (2015) featured over 30 instrumentalists. In 2018, the third album "Old Stock" was dedicated to the themes of migration and identity in a classic theater format. This was followed by "recollection (reimagined)" (2021) and "Old News" (2022).
Now Ben Caplan is back. His fifth studio album "The Flood", which is now being released, is all about the big themes: Loss, resilience and renewal - how do we find a way forward in a world that seems to be falling apart in so many ways at once? And how can this pain be transformed into strength? Like all his work, "The Flood" is a powerful, poetic and deeply human work of art.
Obviously, this album was created for the stage: The fluid transitions and dynamic arrangements just scream for an immersive experience. Because Ben Caplan's music is not simply played - it is lived. His presence on stage is captivating, full of energy and larger than life. Anyone who has experienced him live knows that he enchants any audience in the blink of an eye. Almost 2000 performances in 27 countries speak for themselves. In spring 2026, Ben Caplan will finally return to European stages - and will also make six stops in Germany.
