Beziehungskiller Wohnungskrise. Über das Zusammenleben unter Bedingungen der Knappheit mit Andrej Holm
In the organizer's words:
The housing crisis has long been more than just an economic or urban policy problem. It has a deep impact on the textures of everyday life and changes the conditions of living together.
The lecture explores the question of how the pressure of rising rents and scarce space affects family constellations and forms of relationships. When moving out of the parental home is postponed because there are no affordable alternatives; when families live in apartments that are too small and have to adapt them to new needs by improvising room layouts; when separations are not carried out because no second household can be financed - then it becomes clear how much housing conditions structure intimate decisions. At the same time, precarious housing situations, insecurity and fear of displacement create psychological pressure that becomes inscribed in relationships.
Based on current developments on the Berlin housing market and drawing on concepts of critical and feminist urban research, the lecture examines housing as a social practice: as a place of care and dependency, of negotiation and imposition - and as a central condition for how people can live together today.
