This section is all about understanding your bike
Fixing Breakdowns on the Go
Here you’ll learn how to fix common problems on your own.
For example:
- Fixing a flat tire
- What to do if the chain comes off?
- What should you do if the gears suddenly stop shifting properly?
- What tools should you always have with you?
- Which problems can I fix myself, and when do I need to go to a repair shop?
Goal:Never be stranded helplessly on the side of the road again.
Adjusting brakes and replacing brake pads
This section covers disc brakes.
You’ll learn:
- How do I tell if my brake pads are worn out?
- When do they need to be replaced?
- How do I install new pads?
- What can I do if the brakes are squeaking?
- How do I adjust my brakes properly?
- When do brakes need to be bled?
Goal:Troubleshoot brake system problems on your own.
Adjusting the headset/steering head bearings
The headset is the bearing that needs to be adjusted most often.
You’ll learn:
- How can I tell if a headset is loose?
- How do I check for play?
- How do I adjust it correctly?
- Why should it be neither too loose nor too tight?
Goal:Understand the headset itself.
Removing the rear wheel and changing the tube
One of the most important skills of all.
You’ll learn:
- How to properly remove the rear wheel
- How to remove the tire
- How to replace the inner tube
- Reinstall the tire without using too much force
- Reinstall the rear wheel correctly
Maintaining and Understanding the Drivetrain
This covers everything that drives you.
You’ll learn:
- How do the chain, cassette, and chainrings work?
- How do you clean the drivetrain?
- When should I oil or wax it?
- How do I spot wear and tear?
- When should a chain be replaced?
- Why does proper maintenance significantly extend the chain’s lifespan?
Goal:Less wear and tear, lower costs, and a quieter, more efficient bike.
