One month is not enough to fully represent, visualize and celebrate the diversity of Black History. And yet, February reminds us every year that we need to engage with Black History with more intention and awareness.
This Black History Month, in cooperation with the Afro Festival and Ore Arts e. V., we invite you to join us for a Black History Month party at Karlstorbahnhof - and if you know these organizations in Heidelberg and Mannheim, then you know this is an event you don't want to miss.
This party is an open space for everyone who wants to celebrate, listen, learn and appreciate Black culture in a respectful way.
We start the evening at 20:30 with Badass Bingo goes Black.
In this special edition we play Music Bingo - a tribute to influential Black artists from the past and present. Five rounds, different genres, different artists. Prizes are sponsored by Black-owned businesses. So come along, support local Black businesses and discover where you can consciously support in Heidelberg and Mannheim.
The party starts at 22:00.
On the decks: BYUSA and MAIDATOUCH.
Byusa has been active as a DJ in the Heidelberg/Mannheim region for eight years, starting with disco, house and techno events at venues such as Karlstorbahnhof and Disko Zwei. During a stay in East Africa, he discovered the electronic Afro club music scene for himself and has been bringing the pulsating sound of Amapiano, Afro House and Gqom to the dancefloor since the pandemic.
MAIDATOUCH
As a person of African descent, Maidatouch grew up surrounded by music. Influenced by elements of African culture and rhythm, her sound is constantly evolving - influenced by contemporary club music and personal experiences. Her DJ sets are open and fluid, moving effortlessly between different styles and combining groove-driven tracks with energetic selections and powerful remixes. Driven by flow and atmosphere, Maidatouch creates expressive, energetic dancefloor experiences defined by movement and impact rather than fixed genre boundaries.
You can find more Black History Month programs and events on the Instagram channels of Afro Festival and Ore Arts as well as on the website of Zwinger X, where an Art Night will take place on February 5.
On February 15, there will be a Community Singing with Hannah Jaha.
There will also be an accompanying film program at Karlstorkino at the end of February.
Let's celebrate together.
Let's live Black Joy - as a form of resistance.
