In the organizer's words:
Demonstration exercises, children's program and lots of action in Urachstraße: on Saturday, 13 June, the volunteer fire department (Department 07 Wiehre) invites you to the popular Blue Light Day.
The Blue Light Day has already attracted huge crowds and lots of wide-eyed children four times - now it's time for the fifth edition: On Saturday, June 13, the Freiburg Volunteer Fire Department, Department 07 Wiehre, invites you to this year's Blue Light Day from 10 am to 8 pm. The event will take place in and in front of the fire station at Urachstraße 5 and offers an attractive program for the whole family.
"We are one of the few cities in the southwest to organize Blue Light Days. We are very proud of this - because it's hard to imagine a better setting for our blue light organizations, which use this day to provide information about their work, raise public awareness of volunteering and recruit new members," emphasizes Lord Mayor Martin Horn.
As in previous years, the entire squad of blue light organizations will be at the start: volunteer fire department, Malteser Hilfsdienst, state police, THW, Black Forest mountain rescue service, Malteser rescue dog squadron, rescue divers "Penguins", German Life Saving Association (DLRG), customs, Johanniter, Region der Lebensretter e. V., First Aid For All, Federal Police, Freiburg / Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald Emergency Pastoral Care, the police authority's law enforcement service and the Freiburg University Medical Center's blood donation service.
In addition to information stands, there will be exciting demonstration exercises, workshops and hands-on activities. These include searching for people with rescue dogs (11 a.m.), firefighting with extinguishing attack (12 p.m.), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (1 p.m.), fire extinguisher training (2 p.m.), an emergency scaffolding system (2.30 p.m.), a traffic accident with patient rescue (3.30 p.m.) and a demonstration of a fat explosion (5 p.m.).
Visitors can also take part in a first aid workshop on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and fire extinguisher training, view a crime scene vehicle with forensic equipment, test a mobile luggage X-ray machine with bags they have brought with them and, in cooperation with VAG and the Friends of the Freiburg Tram, experience how a streetcar is lifted in the event of an accident.
The children's program includes a fire department bouncy castle, the teddy bear hospital, trying on a children's police uniform, a bobby car course, a lifting bag labyrinth, fire extinguishing activities, fingerprinting and numerous other hands-on activities at the stands. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will also be something that some children have been looking forward to for a long time - and why some adults regret no longer being a child: children's rides in a fire engine.
Food and drink will be well catered for. In addition to barbecue products from the self-built barbecue container of the fire brigade department 07, there will be chili sin carne, crêpes, coffee and homemade cakes - all from local suppliers and producers.
Visitors can look forward to an eventful day full of commitment, information and action.
